Box Office Storm: Alpha Crosses ₹37 Crore Worldwide but Sparks Heated Debate Online
The YRF Spy Universe’s highly anticipated espionage thriller, Alpha, has officially taken over the box office, generating impressive numbers within its first two days of release. Starring Alia Bhatt and Sharvari in the leads, the film registered a solid opening day net of ₹9.25 crore in India, which immediately jumped by over 20% on Saturday to pull in ₹11.25 crore.
This surge has pushed its domestic gross past ₹24 crore, while its cumulative worldwide gross has successfully crossed the ₹37.60 crore mark, heading comfortably toward a massive opening weekend.
Directed by Shiv Rawail, the high-octane action film features intense hand-to-hand combat, massive chase sequences, and a powerhouse supporting cast including Bobby Deol as the main antagonist and Anil Kapoor as a key ally. Audiences have particularly erupted over Alia Bhatt’s explosive entry scene and a surprise cameo by Hrithik Roshan. However, the film has deeply divided the internet.
While industry heavyweights like Karan Johar and Kareena Kapoor Khan have publicly championed the film’s female-led “theatrical pull,” a section of audiences and critics online have called the screenplay repetitive, with some social media users even trolling a specific beach sequence. Despite the mixed word-of-mouth regarding the storytelling, Alpha remains the undisputed cinematic event of the weekend.
